A Kid Again

Today is the last day before Thanksgiving vacation. How will we manage to get through the day? By wearing braids in our hair & indian hats, watching Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, coloring Turkeys, and singing Over the River and Through the Woods gleefully.  As a student I thought I needed Thanksgiving vacation, now that I'm on the other side it is dire!

We are heading to College Station this afternoon for the Aggie game tomorrow. My mom is coming to pick up Rémy because we can't have him at the hotel we are staying at. I have to admit, this 'mom' is a bit nervous. After CS I am headed back to Houston to spend the week with family (Joe will meet me on Wednesday). I could hardly sleep I was so excited. It's going to be a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Rémy had a bath last night... he didn't enjoy it too much.

A Love Letter to Thanksgiving

Yesterday Joe and I attended our first thanksgiving of the year: our own. We decided to make our thanksgiving favorites with a bit of a different swing on them. Really it was just very simple, but we enjoyed the process of making it ourselves, sitting at our dinning table, and being the two person-two animal family that we are.

Most of my life I have loved Thanksgiving. When I say love, I mean LOVE. Even more so than Christmas (just by a bit though). I find such beauty in gathering around a dinning table with the people I love most without the pressure of presents, and being thankful for them. No matter what the circumstances in life are: we are still saved by grace, live in a country where we experience religious freedom, have our health, and of course have each other. Why wouldn't we gather and thank God for all he has given us? Of course every Thanksgiving is different. This year a chair will be empty at my family's Thanksgiving; but, rather than focus on my sadness for the loss of my Grandpa I am choosing to be thankful for the time I did have with him.

I know one the most joyous (and stressful) moments in my life will be when I host my own Thanksgiving in our home. I think about what it will look like every now and then, especially during this time of year.

Perhaps like this:

We shall see. I hope that as we lead up unto this Thanksgiving season you find yourself overwhelmed with thankfulness.

Expiration Date

Most seasons in life have expiration dates; however, we are usually unaware of them. They meld together and one day we wake up in our tenth month of living in San Antonio and our 22nd month of marriage (or whatever your current state in life is). It is a strange thought that we have been living in SA for ten months already, and in a way I still feel like we aren't completely settled. Neither Joe or I take well to change, we both tend to drag our heals a bit. We have a big, BIG change ahead and today we found out when our life in San Antonio "expires": July 15th. We had our lease extended today, and thankfully our apartment manager agreed to keep the same terms. It is a huge answer to prayer. Most likely we will move about a month before that date, but it is strange to see it on paper. Our move just seems much more real with the limitations set on our time here.

7 months.

It's Never too Late...

... to Post about our trip to the Texas Renaissance Festival.

The last weekend in October we attended the Texas Renaissance Festival with Joe's mom, Aunt Karen, and Uncle John. Being that this is the last Ren Fair (as us Texans so lovingly call it) we would be able to attend for the foreseeable future, Joe and I wanted to make it a priority. Our Saturday was full of huzzahs and some really good eats. If you have ever been to a renaissance festival then you know that you will be seeing interesting outfits and people. I think the most enjoyable and endearing outfits are on the kids. I must say I can't wait to bring our little ones, and the next time we go we could indeed have a baby boo. That's strange to think about. Moving on.

Turning Back the Clock

I hope that you enjoyed your 'extra hour' of sleep last night. I always seem to stay up too late on the end of daylight savings night, and it doesn't even make a difference. Oh well. We had a beautiful weekend here in San Antonio. The weather was perfect and we did some of our favorite activities: eating oysters at Luke and watching football all day Saturday. Yesterday morning I took the opportunity to pamper myself a bit: it was a crisp 48 degrees or so and I stopped and got my first Peppermint Mocha at SB for the season, I went to Ulta and used my coupon on nail polish, and then had a mani and pedi done in those colors. My morning ended with a trip to central market, where they are having a huge wine sale. Score.

This morning we are headed to church, then to La Cantera to have lunch and do some Christmas shopping. I can hardly wait. I can't believe we are already to November, undoubtedly this has been the fastest 'fall semester' I have ever experienced. I guess I have a job that I love to thank for that.

This is my most favorite time of the year, and I hope I slow down enough to enjoy it.

Let the countdown to Thanksgiving begin:

18 Days.
