"Bless Her Heart"

I have started this blog post several times in my head. I don't want it to be morbid, but I don't want it to be too light hearted. Monday morning (March 28th) my grandmother went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She has been diagnosed with altzheimers since 2003, but came down with a volatile infection in December.  We knew she was going to pass away soon, but of course it doesn't make the sting any less. She was a wonderful lady. I wish I could have spent more time with her and known her better. The time I did spend with her we watched musicals and old movies, danced in the living room, I would go to Luby's with them on Fridays, I guess I could go on and on.

I came to Houston on Sunday afternoon to be with family, and this week has been a really sweet time of fellowship with them. That is the blessing in all of this. The Lord is gracious. This is the first time I have been a part of all of the planning and basically every detail of a funeral et cetera. It has been an interesting journey. It was the slowest week of my life, yet looking back it was a mere blink. Now that I'm back on my couch in San Antonio I can't believe it's all over. It was difficult to leave Houston. I know the weeks to come are going to be rough for my mom, and I wish I could be there for her.  I couldn't be more grateful to know that my 'mimi' is with her heavenly father now. She is able to sing and dance, and is with her parents that she loved so dearly.

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Very sweet tribute to your Mimi. I had no idea how much your Aunt Diane favored her mother!
