Don't Forget to Hold Hands

In mid-June Joe and I went on a family weekend trip to the Texas Hill Country. I mentioned it here. While we were there John (Terry's brother in law) shared a poem he had written for his wife's, Karen, birthday. It was so sweet, and there was not a dry eye among us. One of the lines that stuck out to me most was something like this: 'and we've held hands all the way'. Oh, be still my heart. John and Karen are one of those obviously (but not obnoxiously) in love couples. They really do hold hands all the time, or at least when I have seen them.

Over the weekend while in the car I reached over to hold my man's hand. Huh, I hadn't done this in quite some time. Granted I had been in Latvia for the past three weekends (really the only time we are in the car together). Thankfully it still brought me great joy and comfort to feel his fingers intertwined with mine.  I remember the first time he held my hand: we were on my couch, watching Swiss Family Robinson. It was such a pure and perfect moment. We aren't the best of hand holders now. It's not that we don't want to, or are going through the terrible twos of marriage, I think we just forget. What a shame. After all, that hand is mine and mine is his. Any of us that are married et cetera could take the cue from John and Karen. I encourage you to slow down, and don't forget to hold hands.
